All Good Things Must Come To An End...

It's sad to say, but this will be the last post I make on Chic In The Street. I started it to fill my time with writing while I recovered from my heart attack in February. I have enjoyed it immensely, however, it is time for me to look for work outside my home since my shoppe is not doing as well as I had imagined and hoped it would. I plan to keep this blog up for reading for another month or so in case there is someone interested in my archives.

I hope to keep up with my Our Scented Cottage blog so you can check in with me there and see what I'm up to when I'm not job searching or volunteering.

Blessings be with you and Happy Holidays!

Create A Sunrise...

Are you making a special breakfast or brunch for guests this holiday season? Replace the usual orange juice with this special drink! It's not only healthy, but pretty to look at and your guests will love it!
Ingredients:
3 cups orange juice
2 medium bananas diced
cranberry juice cocktail
1/4 cup honey
Ice cubes
Place the orange juice, bananas and honey in a blender. Add the ice cubes until you have 6 cups of mixture. Cover and blend on low speed for 30 seconds or until smooth. Divide the mixture into 8 glasses and pour the cranberry juice on top. The cranberry juice will sink to the bottom making an orange sunrise.

Frugal Find For Chapped Lips...

Ok...at $5.59 it might not be as frugal as some finds for chapped lips but it is the number 1 product I have found that almost heals and smooths chapped lips overnight! It subtly tints your lips as an added bonus and I have also found that it is wonderful over your lipstick as a gloss. This will be another staple in my beauty bag and if you're looking for something to smooth your lips, stocking stuffers, frugal beauty gifts, etc... you have to try this Minted Rose Lip Balm! I am confident you will love it! If you're wondering, there is no rose scent or flavor in this product, but if you're worried about that, they have various other "flavors" to try.
You can also rub it on dry patches of skin, elbows, heels etc. for an added bonus.

This Week I'm Loving...

Photo'Perfexion Fluid Foundation SPF 20 PA+++ by Givenchy! Like most women, I am always on the hunt for the perfect makeup bag accessories. I finally, after to many years to count, found the perfect foundation for me! I have purchased various foundations from a few dollars to many dollars, and though this is a splurge, it is a must have for me from this day forward.

Givenchy's claim:

A creamy foundation with SPF protection. What it does: Givenchy Photo'Perfexion Fluid Foundation SPF 20 PA+++ works like a concealer to correct imperfections, smooth the skin's texture, and even out the complexion. With the expertise and speed of a digital retoucher, Photo'Perfexion conceals dark shadows and sallow complexions. It goes on smooth and velvety every time and delivers a flawless finish—minus the heavy, cakey feeling.

My claim:

ALL of the above and also light coverage of my freckles!! I love it and if you've been searching for a foundation and have tried everything (including the loose mineral foundation) give this a try. Don't take my word for it. Visit a Sephora or makeup counter near you that sells it and "try it on." It does all it says and your face will love you for it. A Tip To Save Your Manicure...

If your long, manicured nails sometimes puncture the fingertips of your dishwashing gloves, here's a solution you'll appreciate. Push a cotton ball into the fingers of your gloves. The soft barrier should pro-long the gloves' life and help save your manicure!

Lowfat Gingerbread Men Recipe...

Don't deny yourself this holiday season! Even if you need to cut the fat, it doesn't mean you have to cut the flavor. These gingerbread men use half the butter normally used in most gingerbread cookie recipes. Applesauce helps the cookies retain their moisture and gives them a soft texture.

Ingredients:
1/4 cup butter, softened (I use I Can't Believe It's Not Butter cubes and it's great!)
3/4 cup firmly packed brown sugar
1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce
1 egg
1/3 cup dark molasses
3 cups all-purpose flour
1 tsp baking soda
2 tsp ground ginger
1 tsp ground cinnamon
1/2 tsp allspice
1/4 tsp ground cloves

In a large mixing bowl, beat butter, sugar and applesauce until smooth. Add egg and molasses and mix well. In another large bowl, combine flour, baking soda and spices. Add to sugar and molasses mixture, stirring well. Divide dough in two; cover with plastic wrap and chill for 2 hours.

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Roll out dough to 1/4 or 1/8-inch thickness. Cut gingerbread men with a cookie cutter. Add candies or raisins to decorate. Place 1-2 inches apart on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Bake 10-12 minutes. Add frosting or more decorations (if desired) when cool. Makes approx. 30 cookies.
